Ministries
NEW
Parish Nurse
This January, a new and exciting ministry has started at Our Lady of Lourdes: Health and Wellness ministry! Our new Parish Nurse, Laura Sherburne, will lead this ministry. Laura is a registered nurse and works at SW Washington Medical Center. She is also pursuing her Master’s Degree in Nursing at Washington State University Vancouver. Laura has been a member of this community since childhood. Her two daughters attend OLL School. As a Parish Nurse, Laura has been trained to nurture the whole person--body, mind, and spirit. Laura hopes to build-up a strong program for our Parish and School that focus on prevention, wholeness, and wellness. Begining in February, once a month Blood Pressure Clinics will be offered before and after Mass. Laura is looking for Health Ministers (do not need to be medically licensed) to help with this ministry. Please sign up in the Parish Office or contact Laura Sherburne.
Elizabeth Ministry
Elizabeth Ministry offers support to women and their families during the joys, challenges and sorrows of the childbearing years. The Elizabeth Ministry mission is to cherish children, encourage families and build community. We offer, support, resources, prayers and understanding. Elizabeth Ministry follows the example of Scripture story of the visitation of Mary and Elizabeth by bringing women together who share a similar story. Please contact Sue McDonald.
Music Ministry
Providing music for 5:00pm, 8:00am, 9:30am, and 11:00am Masses. Rehearsals Thursdays 7:00 pm in the school portable. Contact: Jina Darnell at 360-695-1366, ext. 302.
Seafarer’s Ministry
Fort Vancouver Seafarers Center supports wayward sailors. Its purpose is to provide comfort and support to mariners during their stay in port. They provide transportation to visiting sailors who would like to or need to do some shopping, as well as provide a recreation center and library, a mini store, telephone services, a chapel and free clothing items. We are looking for donations of coats, hats, scarves, shirts, jeans, shoes and socks. Snacks are also welcomed. Your donation can be placed in the basket marked Seafarer’s. Contact Geri Burke via the Parish Office.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
When you think of a prayer shawl, what comes to mind? For many knitters, the term prayer shawl means a shawl that is lovingly hand knitted or crocheted out of a soft, comforting yarn, blessed by the one who has made it, and wrapped around the shoulders of someone in need of comfort. “Wrapping another in a shawl knit of your own prayers and loving thoughts is a gift not only for the one receiving the shawl, but for yourself as well.” Prayer shawls become tangible symbols of love when words can’t be found to adequately express one’s feeling. If you knit or crochet, your time and talent could be served well in this ministry. Contact Victoria MacKenzie via the Parish Office.
Rosary Ministry
Make it, pray it and give it away. This is the philosophy behind rosary making. Do you like to make jewelry? Are you currently making rosaries and would like to share your talent with others? This is the ministry for you. Do you have broken rosaries that need repair? The rosary ministry can help. Contact John & Jackie Schissl via the Parish Office.
Gloves for the Homeless Ministry
This ministry collects insulated gloves for the homeless. They are collected year round and delivered during the month of November during “Operation Turkey Sandwich.” They can be brought to the Pastoral center. Contact Marie Ferderer via the Parish Office.
Homebound Ministry
Our Homebound Ministry volunteers bring the Eucharist to parishioners who are unable to attend Mass. In bringing the Eucharist to our homebound parishioners, we are also telling them that they are still part of our Parish community and that the rest of the community is one with them, and are praying for them. If you are interested in becoming a homebound minister, please contact Sue McDonald.
