We are a community devoted to study of Scriptures and other texts in our Catholic Tradition
PURPOSE:
We strive to deepen our commitment to Christ through better understanding of Scriptures. St Jerome said, “Ignorance of Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.” We seek to understand the text, and by that to understand the mind and heart of the sacred writer, and by that to hear the Spirit of Christ speaking to us through the sacred writer.
METHOD:
We learn from one another in seminar style. A facilitator guides the discussion. We each bring our reading of the text, other resources we have found helpful, and our experience to the table. We sandwich our discussion with prayer.
SPIRITUAL LIFE:
We pray for one another and for our parish. We encourage one another to deepen prayer life. We bring our discussion and understanding of the text to bear on our daily living and journey with Christ.
We meet every Sunday evening in the Parish Lounge from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. All are welcome to join us at anytime. Come see if our style of breaking open the Word and sharing the journey suits you.
We are studying the gospel of Mark this year through the Easter Season. During the summer, we read non-Scriptural texts. Past summers’ readings have included the first letter of Clement, St. Augustine’s Confessions, St. Benedict’s Rule, the autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux, and a biography of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Come Be My Light.
